Most motorcycle locks works with one key, but the gas cap has less wafers in it than the ignition switch. This is why when we want to originate a new key we will never start working on the ignition switch! As you can see in figure 1 and 2, we are starting with picking the lock on the gas cap.

When we picked the Motorcycle gas cap we can remove it from the Motorcycle (Put a towel or anything else first in the open gas tank so you won’t drop any screw inside). When the gas cap has been removed we can place it on a nice working table and start taking it apart carefully.

As you can see in figures 3-6, Disassembling The gas cap parts is pretty simple and will required only a screwdriver and an organized personality, because you need to remember the parts removal order – you will have to re-built in in few minutes.

Your goal right now is to hit the retainer at the back of the lock cylinder and release the cylinder from the housing in a way that will let you read the wafers.

Once you got the lock cylinder all you need to find out is what cuts you can see, then progress your way to the ignition based on the cuts from the gas cap. For example: This Suzuki sport motorcycle key in Denver has total of seven cuts. The ignition switch holds cuts 1 to 7 and the gas cup holds cuts 3 to 7. So once we figured the cuts for the gas lock, all we need to do is just to guess cuts number 1 and 2. In most cases, the computer will narrow these options for you.

Remember! Each motorcycle is different and different tools and skills are required. Some motorcycle requires special decoders because picking them may cause permanent damage to the motorcycle locks. This information is a basic description on how to originate a new motorcycle key procedure and brought to you so you will have more information before you are ordering a locksmith to originate new motorcycle keys. This is not recommended to follow these instructions if you have no experience.
